Music, Beauty, and Narnia

Author Amy K. Hall Published on 05/11/2021

After a year of not being able to participate in live music due to COVID restrictions, I was moved by this hour-long discussion from the C.S. Lewis Foundation about music and beauty with composer J.A.C. Redford (you have surely seen movies he has composed and arranged for). He’s a talented and thoughtful Christian (his book tells the story of his leaving Mormonism for Christianity) and a joy to listen to.

In the first half of the discussion, he talks about what he found when he studied all the instances where music appears in the Chronicles of Narnia books, then he goes on to discuss his choral music, working as a film composer in Hollywood, and more during the Q&A.

If you’re a musician, you’ll particularly appreciate this, but even if you aren’t, you’ll be uplifted by its beauty. It’s so easy to get caught up in the challenges of our particular time, so take a moment to step out of that and experience the glory of God through beauty.
